Case Study

Perspective have authored and deployed a system for the operation of an American insurance business. This system provides a robust and flexible basis for supporting large numbers of concurrent users. The application is web-launched but with a rich graphical user interface - this client application is delivered directly from the data centre over a secure, encrypted connection, thereby allowing for virtually zero-cost roll-out of new releases or to new offices. The system has innovative workflow components allowing increased efficiency in claims handling and reinsurance recovery.

System requirements were gathered and documented in accordance with UML standards using the IBM Rational modelling toolset.

The system was built using Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technologies. J2EE provides a standard for the construction of portable, scalable and component-based applications, and has been embraced by the leading vendors of application servers (BEA, IBM, Oracle, Sybase etc). We chose to use a Java Swing application as the presentation layer, in preference to a browser-based alternative, given the need for a rich graphical user interface.

Perspective was also engaged to perform data migration from a legacy application into the new system. We worked closely with the client team to agree the detailed conversion strategy; then managed all aspects of the project through to implementation.

Since the initial deployment a further portfolio of business has been migrated and more are planned for the near future. Perspective has been engaged to support the application on a long-term basis.
